I’m choosing selfishness. Hear me out.
Hi guys! Ashli here, and man I’ve missed you! And WELCOME to all of you new here from our NY event, Hot Girls are Cocky (watch the 1 min recap vlog!!)
Why am I choosing selfishness?
Well because I remembered this week that there’s a theory in economics (thanks college!) called The Invisible Hand, which basically states that selfishness creates more good in the world than selflessness. Now hear me out - the Bezos’ of the world will hear this and think about how they want to take advantage of people who are less than. That’s not The Invisible Hand theory, that’s just cruelty.
The Invisible Hand suggests that if I want my business to … let’s say … buy my mom a house. That’s a selfish want / desire! That’s fully about me as a person and my gains. However, the way to make that money is to
Listen to your community / consumers / clients and adapt to what they want in your product or business
Provide great customer service so that they feel taken care of.
Stay aligned with your integrity to ensure you’re being a collaborative team member and steward of your business.
Give back to the community to create community with your buyers.
The idea here is that, when motivated selfishly, you actually in turn take care of the people around you. Are there people who use this theory to make themselves and their own self importance seem “okay” - of course, that’s why we have tyranny and fascism. But with every negative is a positive.
And the reason I share this with you is because I want you to remember that, as women, sometimes we get SO wrapped up in our selflessness and our servitude to others, that we lose sight of 2 very important things: 1) You get to win in your success and you don’t have to be SO in pain in business and 2) If you pour from your cup to the point that you are empty, you have nothing left to give. That’s when anger and resentment kick in.
So my hope is that this helps reframe for you how you show up in the world this week. You can be someone who gives from your heart. AND you can be someone who makes space to feel those wins of your own success. Overflow from excess, not from lack or from a place of giving so you earn your success.
Care for the brand you’re building.
Care for your team.
Care for the product or service you put out into the world.
Care about your consumers.
And do so because of the way it services them. AND for the way that in turn services you. And when do you get to feel the fruits of your labor, feel it with every single part of you. Fully and deeply.
PS, my pick-my-brain calls are back! For only $150, you can pick my brain about:

As Ever
Meghan Markle recently launched As Ever, her brand that’s a collection of products for cooking and hostessing. She’s partnered with Netflix for a docu-collab under the brand, making As Ever feel less like a random celeb cash grab and more like an actual business strategy. They also just launched a rosé today, because of course they did, and honestly, it’s giving “quiet luxury but with a side of California sunshine.”
Is it for you? Maybe, maybe not. But it’s another female-founded brand trying to do its thing in a world that wants Meghan to lose no matter what she does, and that’s worth noting.
Personally, we think the media has completely warped all of their words, and we commend her for not falling into the hate in a way that could genuinely ruin a person. That kind of strength is commendable. Plus to everyone saying she's unnatural, well we would be too! She can't do anything right, we’re sure it's tough to be who you are when you feel so misunderstood. But that's our 2 cents! Won't be a shopper probably, and not necessarily a fan by any means, but a supporter of another female brand for sure.
What We’re Streaming:
1️⃣ Overcompensating A genius comedy from Benito Skinner that makes you want to text your therapist and your ex. Watch if you’ve ever said “I’m fine” while spiraling. There’s awkward moments, chaos, and a guest appearance from Charli XCX that makes everything 1000% cooler. It’s like eavesdropping on your funniest friends while they unpack life’s messiest moments. Bonus: the soundtrack is insanely fire and the cast is perfect. Be prepared to laugh and possibly cry.
2️⃣ Adults FX’s new Gen Z comedy that feels like you’re part of the chaotic friend group living in Queens trying (and failing) to adult. It’s like Broad City meets Friends but with less rent. The show dives into awkward situations, questionable decisions, and the messiness of early adulthood. It’s binge-worthy for anyone who’s ever Googled “how to be a grown-up”.
3️⃣ We Were Liars This show is dripping in summer vibes, rich people drama, and an emotional rollercoaster that hits you right in the feels. You’ll be hooked, heartbroken, and probably thinking about the big reveal for a long time. It’s hauntingly beautiful with a plot that unfolds like a well-kept secret.
4️⃣ Love Island USA Season 7 The perfect summer binge and season 7 is giving us love triangles, backstabs, and more “Did they really just say that?” moments than we can handle. It’s great for when you want to feel superior to a bunch of 20-somethings making cringe flirting moves, but also lowkey jealous of their abs and confidence. Basically, your guilty pleasure and weekly reminder to not text your ex.
5️⃣ The Bear Season 4 The most stressful show on TV is back and somehow even more chaotic (we mean that lovingly). Watch if you love a meltdown with a side of gourmet plating and emotionally repressed chefs. The tension? Chef’s kiss. The cast? Flawless. The food shots will make you hungry while you’re sobbing over Carmy’s bad decisions.
